Life After Whitney Houston

As I was listening to the Tom Joyner Morning Show this morning in the car, an interview with Cissy Houston. A question was asked of her whether she knew that BeBe Winans also wrote a book on his relationship with Whitney and had she given permission to pen this book. Cissy replied that she was aware of the books release and that she firmly said "No", "I did not give him permission to write the book". In her words, she states that it was just "HIS side of the story", being that he was a friend of Whitney's.

I'm certain that from now to eternity, we will hear all versions of her life's downfall from grace from very many sources. The question is, "Who's account of Whitney's trials, tribulations and triumphs are you most likely to believe?". I personally, would like to read both accounts and not weigh heavy on one viewpoint over the other because emotions are involved and I'm sure neither person wants the memory of Whitney's life tarnished with negativity but with love and honor for her God given talents as a singer, mother, daughter, friend and now an angel.

BeBe Winans
A virtual album of BeBe Winans' treasured memories of his friend and "sister," Whitney Houston.

In the years between the first time BeBe Winans and Whitney Houston met in 1985, to the day he delivered the tribute that touched a watching nation at Houston's funeral, a deep and unique friendship bloomed and thrived. They considered each other family in the truest sense of the word.

Now this very personal collection of remembrances offers us a seat at the table during Whitney's most unguarded moments. Here we see her in all her quirky, passionate, fiercely loyal glory though the eyes of her "brother", BeBe.

Cissy Houston is a Grammy Award–winning soul and gospel singer and the mother of the late superstar Whitney Houston. She gained fame as part of the Drinkards, a family gospel group, and revolutionized the "Background Industry" as the founder and leader of the Sweet Inspirations, a well-respected vocal group who provided background vocals for such artists as Luther Vandross, Wishbone Ash, Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, and Elvis Presley. She later enjoyed a successful career as a solo artist. Cissy grew up in Newark, New Jersey, where she raised her family and still lives in the area.

Honest and heartbreaking, a mother's story of tears, joy, and her greatest love of all—her daughter, Whitney
On the eve of the 2012 Grammy Awards, the world learned of a stunning tragedy: Whitney Houston, unquestionably one of the most remarkable and powerful voices in all of music, had been silenced forever. Over the weeks and months that followed, family, friends, and fans alike tried to understand how such a magnificent talent and beautiful soul could have been taken so early and so unexpectedly. Glamorous and approachable, captivating and sweet, Whitney had long ago won the hearts of America, but in recent years her tumultuous personal life had grabbed as many headlines as her soaring vocal talents. Her sudden death left behind not only a legacy of brilliance, but also painful questions with no easy answers.

Now, for the first time, the beloved superstar's mother, Cissy Houston—a gospel legend in her own right—relates the full, astonishing scope of the pop icon's life and career. From Whitney's earliest days singing in the church choir to her rapid ascent to the pinnacles of music stardom, from her string of number one hits to her topping the Hollywood box office, Cissy recounts her daughter's journey to becoming one of the most popular and successful artists of all time. Setting the record straight, Cissy also speaks candidly about Whitney's struggles in the limelight, revealing the truth about her turbulent marriage to singer Bobby Brown, her public attempts to regain her celebrated voice, and the battle with drugs that ultimately proved too much.
In this poignant and tender tribute to her "Nippy," Cissy summons all her strength to reveal not only Whitney the superstar, but also Whitney as a sweet girl, a bright-eyed young woman, and a deeply caring mother. Complete with never-before-seen family photographs, Remembering Whitney is an intimate, heartfelt portrait of one of our most revered artists, from the woman who cherished her most.

I loved Whitney and her music. I am sorry for the demons that caused her early demise. I indulged as a younger person to mask my supposed deficiencies. I am glad that I survived. Bobbi Kristina is in limbo right now for whatever reason. So sad. Her musical legacy will never dim though.
